“My family applied for an immigrant visa for Canada and me as the main applicant. I didn't take the IELTS in advance since there are a lot of things to be done at work and at home. Then the Canadian Embassy notice for appearance arrived and I enrolled at a "class based" review center.

I didn't mind the fact that there were around 53 students in my review class since their price of PhP 4,800.00 was a bargain for me and besides they offer an unlimited review option. Then the struggle starts for me. I noticed that I have difficulty in Listening and Speaking categories and being in a "class based" review with 1:53 teacher-student ratio, I'm beginning to have doubts as to whether the price for the review is a bargain.

IELTS exam day arrived and just as I feared, I failed to reach my required band score in my Listening and Speaking test.

The price for the IELTS exam is quite expensive at PhP 8,640.00 and I have to retake the IELTS exam again which means I have to shell out another PhP 8,640.00 for the exams.

I finally got my required band scores after I enrolled at Atheneum which offers "tutorial based" review but I had to re-apply for my application as an immigrant for Canada since I failed to get my IELTS band score requirements on-time for my Canadian Embassy appearance.

I learned 2 important lesson after this. First is 'cheaper doesn't mean better' and 'the sooner the better'”

I am so grateful to Atheneum for helping me prepare for the IELTS. I took the online review for 2 weeks and obtained an overall band score of 8.5.

With 3 weeks left before the IELTS exam, it was cramming time. I need to get a band score of at least 7.0 to be on track with my dreams... And yes-I'm now one step closer after getting an overall band score of 7.5.
