Overseas Nursing Program

• All nurses trained outside of the United Kingdom are required to complete a specific 20-day "Protected Learning" program with an approved higher education provider, along with a prescribed length of supervised practice (if any) before being accepted for the registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

• This is for RN's who want to study and later on, work as Registered Nurses in the UK, not merely as Caregivers in Nursing Homes.

Application Process

• All trained nurses, midwives and health visitors must be registered with the NMC for them to practice in the UK.


• If your application meets the minimum standards, you will then have to complete an Overseas Nursing Programme.


• ONP is approved and regulated by the NMC. It is funded and commissioned by the Strategic Health Authorities.


• You will not be able to work as a nurse without having completed the programme, even if your application to join the NMC register is successful.
